Currencies and multi-currency

Accounting currency, rates, foreign-currency documents, VAT.

Settings -> Currencies.

Accounting currency

One currency is marked as the accounting currency (hryvnia by default). Its rate is always 1, and cost, settlements and every report are calculated in it. It cannot be changed once documents have been posted.

Rates

A rate is set against the accounting currency, either direct (how much accounting currency per unit) or indirect (how many units per one unit of the accounting currency). Multiplicity covers small denominations: the rate is given per 10, 100 or 1000 units. Hryvnia rates can be updated automatically from the National Bank of Ukraine.

Documents in a foreign currency

  • line prices are stored in the document currency;
  • all totals (sum, VAT, paid, shipped, cost, counterparty balance, every report) are stored in the accounting currency.

The document rate is a snapshot

The rate is stored on the document itself. Changing a rate in the directory does not recalculate saved documents - otherwise yesterday's sale would change its total on every rate move. Prices can only be recalculated from the document form.

VAT

VAT rates are a separate directory with the Ukrainian set 20 / 7 / 0 / VAT exempt. A document has two flags: VAT (is the operation taxable) and prices include VAT (tax inside the price or added on top).

Amount in words

Printed forms spell the amount out, respecting the grammatical gender of the currency. Names and gender come from the currency's major and minor unit fields.
